XT600 Tenere (SOLD)

So I bought a bike, but really I only bought it for the spares, so to be fair, this one has got to go rather quickly again.

What we have here is a 1986 Yamaha XT600 Tenere, 1VJ with a few fleas. It's got a rattly top-end and someone swapped the frame and now only has got paperwork for the original (bent) frame.

Pros:

  • 51,220km on the clock
  • new battery
  • fresh oil-change
  • new front tyre, almost new rear
  • new chain
  • new seatcover
  • Austrian paperwork
  • some more 1VJ specific are available extra (e.g. a very good stock fuel tank, some more blue plastics, etc.)
Cons:
  • top-end is rattly even after adjusting the valves correctly
  • paper-work doesn't match the frame
Price: 1100€

If you're interested drop me a comment or send me a mail or simply check out the bike at https://www.willhaben.at/iad/object?adId=335020892

The other XS Triple Sidecar - final cosmetic touches and Hitachi carb install [FOR SALE]

Well, I'll start with a bit of disappointment for you straight away: There are no pics on how to install the Hitachi carbs, because it is pretty straight forward. Only thing to remember: All the rubbers on the airbox are at least 35 years old and are pretty stiff. A bit of the classic heatgun/hairdryer and lube treatment will help you there. Except from that, the job might be easier if you undo the battery box and slide it back, but it's doable with it in place as well.

That being said, huge thanks to my dad for doing all the polishing on the exhaust and mudguards, because as you might have noticed with my own bikes: I ain't one much for polishing unless engine internals are involved.

And yes, this bike is for sale, as hinted by the youtube-clip AND the label underneath. If you fancy it, it has got full German paper work, no TÜV, but as you can confirm with the various blog posts, all consumables are new, so new TÜV should be absolutely no problem. Pretty much the same goes for registering it in Austria as it is also completely set up for that as well. Drop me an email (see address on the right) or a comment, if you want to buy it and I'll get back to you.

The other XS Triple Sidecar - fixing carbs and electrickery

Weirdly enough, ever since I bought the 750 the Mikuni Mik1 carbs have been leaking on #1. Three new floats and float valves couldn't cure it until I bought a scrap carburettor from a friend and tried using the original float valves with the protective shields installed. Turns out, that the bike must have been parked on the sidestand for a long time and now petrol dissolves the residues and they clog up the float valves. After taking the carbs off a two more times now the float bowls look clean and the carb has stopped leaking. The residue itself was interesting: it looked a lot like some fuel tank liner or something along those lines as it was really flaky and not the usual rust-gunk.

A bit of re-wiring on the sidecar brought both the front and rear-lights back to life.

And this is a special for all those who want to know how to distinguish 64hp heads from the later 74hp heads. (The one shown below is an 850 head though!)

64hp-head

850 head
... and except for fitting the (not yet delivered) 16" sidecar tyre, the other XS Triple Sidecar is pretty much ready for a new owner.

She does sound mighty tasty, mind you (carbs sync'ed and floats adjusted):

The XS400 RatRacer (part 6) - Finishing touches (For Sale)

Right, there wasn't much left to do in order to get the XS400 RatRacer into presentable shape.

Polished all the shiny bits

Finished off the heat-shields! (They are now welded on properly, and if I may very humbly say so, they look the part, I think.)

Proper brakes - everything new: new pistons, seals, brake-pads, steel-braided brakehose

The workplace: Bare essentials.

You think this bike's cool? Drop me a line and let's have a chat about it. It's gotta go as I have an aircooled RD Racer waiting...
