End of July project overview

Right, the blog has gone quiet again for about two weeks, but I have a good reason for that:

  • I have officially been accepted to run the Turbo TR1 at the Glemseck 101 in the so called "Sprint International" class. Which basically means, additionally to my normal work, I am now rebuilding the turbo bike to be not only working, but race ready and just as you'd expect there's lots of new issues coming up.
  • Additionally I took on a cafe racer showbike(-ish) build and built multiple sets of 2in1 exhausts for XV750ies and TR1s.
  • If that weren't enough, my dad's new XT 500 Dre-XT-Stück's carbs gave us more than a fair share of headache and have well eaten into the amount of time I have available for the blog.
  • And lastly I've been fettling with my SR500 hack's sidecar mounts a bit, as I deemed them to be a bit flimsy and I have to get a new Austrian MOT (TÜV) for it.

All of those four topics will be covered in more detail in separate blog entries in the coming days...

Current project overview

As some of my dear readers might have noticed, my update-frequency has become a bit erratic, but this is (honestly) down to a distinct rise in project-related work in the workshop.

So here comes a little overview, which I actually wanted to post yesterday, of what I am working on at the moment

1) The turbo TR1. I have been waiting for 3 "§=$)§$=)( weeks for the last missing parts, namely the VM44-carb in order to fire it up, yet still lots of small niggly stuff to do, but unfortunately of the kind that does not warrant a blog entry.

2) The everyday TR1. Fixing up stripped threads and thousands of small bits, e.g. like fitting new fork gaiters, new tyres, general maintenance, etc...

3) Ms. Braaaap my XT500. Resurrected from the dead (update tomorrow) and found lots of things that needed my attention

4) The XS400 to 450 to 500 project. I am building a GENUINE 450cc XS400 engine that can be bored to close to 500cc, once it has proven it's worthy of a set of new pistons. This project has progressed quite far, but I really, really have to go through not literally, but actually hundreds of photos.

5) Andi's XV750 cafe racer. The bike of which you've seen the fork swap earlier now gets a full make over and it's going to be bitchin' awesome.

6) Doing work on my dad's XT500 (4-valve), which he picked up very cheap and is his supposed to be his new grocery-getter for the elusive pack of frozen peas. But there was a reason, why it was as cheap as it was, but we're getting there.

Who's this GreasyGreg guy anyway?

Pretty good question Wattson. Well, the name's Greg, I am from Linz, Austria and I love bikes and other wheeled vehicles, which are proper fast or at the very least feel fast.

I admit I've got a soft spot for older stuff, mainly not only because it's what I can afford, but it's simple to fix and it's what I played around with in the last years. Therefore my stable's mostly home to assorted old two-wheeled junk, none of which was more than 1500 Euros, when bought. I am not in particular a fan of a certain brand, but I do admit that all of my active bikes come from the brand with the three tuning forks. I did have the odd rocket from other oriental and even European manufacturers under the belt of my ownership, but there's only a very few, I've stayed with for a prolonged period of time.

Truth be told, I am also strongly into engineering of all sorts and as such you'll find the odd post about lathe- or milling-work and welding-techniques, etc. on this blog.

Now if you fancy employing my services, you can either leave a comment under one of the posts on the blog or send me an email to hisgreasyness@gmail.com
